Guarnaschelli is the daughter of the cookbook editor Maria Guarnaschelli and John Guarnaschelli. In the year 1991, she graduated from Barnard College with an art historical degree. She worked in the American Place restaurant for one year for an hourly wage of minimum from the year 1991 through 1991. Guarnaschelli's experience in the kitchen began after watching her mom test a variety of recipes at home , while she was editing cookbooks. Guarnaschelli started her career working with Larry Forgione. Her son Marc Forgione was the Iron Chef. Guarnaschelli then went on to work at various restaurants in France as well as Los Angeles. Guy Savoy runs La Butte Chaillot. Prior to being hired by Butter as chef in charge, she was working at the restaurant of Daniel Boulud at his eponymous restaurant. After the restaurant's closure she served as the executive chef at The Darby. Chair of the Museum of Food and Drink's Culinary Council. Guarnaschelli has published her first book in 2013. "Old-School Comfort Food: The Way I Learned to Cook" includes autobiographical information and some of her favorite dishes in her professional work which she modified for her kitchen at home.
