Lee Roy Selmon has a history that combines family scholarship football with community service. The first family is his youngest of the nine children born to Lucious the Jessie and Lucious Selmon raised on a farm at Eufala, Oklahoma. Two, football. He is one of three brothers who participated in the football team of Oklahoma. All three became All-America. In 1973, Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy is the winner of both Outland Awards and Lombardi Awards. He was the best lineman in the entire nation. During his three-year tenure as Oklahoma's starting quarterback and Sooners' starting quarterback, they went 32-1-1 and won two national championships. In 1975, Selmon was awarded the third scholarship of his career and was named an National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon earned a degree from the university of California in Berkeley. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer hours per week during college. In Tampa the Buccaneers, he was a player for the Buccaneers for nine seasons before becoming an all-pro. Additionally, he started an entrepreneurial career. In 1988, as an account relations officer at First Florida Bank of Tampa, he worked with Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It was the Junior Chamber of Commerce honored Lee Roy in 1982 for being one of the top 10 youngsters in the US. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and was a tall of 6'2 inches. While he was in college, he was the captain of the 1975 team. In 1993, Roy joined the University of South Florida's athletic department as the Director of Athletics as an associate. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1993 by his fellow members of the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame of 1994 as well as by in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1995, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation presented its Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma made the presentation.
